Starting Summer Vacation, 2014

Ahhh... there is really nothing to compare to that first day of summer vacation. This year, mine started with a sweet kitty and a book to wake up to!

My day at the "Tiki Hotel"

On our last day in San Diego, the family went back to Sea World and I stayed behind at our hotel for some mommy time! Ben loved this hotel - the Crowne Plaza Hotel San Diego - and still asks to go back to the "Tiki Hotel." I enjoyed a massage and some time at the pool reading!

Rad!

 On June 1st Bree and I did our first 5K run together - Color Me Rad!  When I found out kids under age 7 were free I decided to give it a try. I was hoping the colors would be a good motivator.  We joined my friend Misty for the colorful run around the neighborhood near Sky Sox Stadium. Bree did amazing during the first half, it was hard to keep up with her! She was so excited when we ran down the street by our school. She may have gone too strong too soon, however, because she was tired and needing encouragement for the last half. When the race was over we drove over to Old Chicago to re-fuel. Can't wait to do another one with her!

A Dirty Day

 This September I joined an awesome group of women from work and headed out to Byers, Colorado to participate in the Dirty Girl Mud Run. This was my first 5K and something I am proud of! It was a beautiful day full of fun, laughter, teamwork, and mud. I am so fortunate to work with such amazing women. We even had a co-worker join us strictly to photograph the event - thank you to Eva for most of these photos!

yogafied

My dear friend Corinne is putting her training to good use - teaching yoga classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Until her own studio is finished, she is renting some space at Om & Garden on the west side of Colorado Springs. I was lucky enough to attend one of her first classes this Tuesday! I love the space, and Corinne is certainly a talented instructor. She studied in an ashram in India, an experience I am terribly envious of!

If you are interested in trying out yoga for the first time, or are somebody who has done it before, I highly recommend checking out Corinne's classes. You can find more information about them on the Yogafied facebook site - or please contact me and I can get you more information. The first class is a mere $8, and from there only $10-12.

The cottages we stayed in, right behind the beach. Such a perfect little walk to the sand.

private screening

I went to the movies yesterday! By myself!

It was a whim. I was out running some errands while Dan was home with Bree. (He took the day off in honor of my birthday.) I drove past the theater and thought it was a long shot that the movie I wanted to see would be starting soon, but decided to check it out. The City of Ember was showing at 11:15, fifteen minutes after I got there. Score!

So I bought myself some popcorn and headed into the theater. It was very quiet, only four other people were there in addition to myself. I sat in one of the back rows and watched the show. I LOVED the book, so not surprisingly the movie just didn't measure up. (Giant moles, are you kidding? That was NOT part of the book.) I thought the casting was good and the depiction of Ember was great, but the story was changed too much.

Though it would have been nice to see with a friend, it was a lovely couple of hours to myself on my birthday.
