a walk to remember

Our summertime visit to Montauk was special time spent together. Most nights after dinner Bree and I would walk to the beach, just the two of us. We perfected our route in order to go by some of our favorite neighborhood spots. It began with a trek past a bamboo forest and to a lovely tree swing, just the right size for four-year-old Bree.

While passing this seaside cottage Mommy would daydream a bit about what it would be like to own it, and Bree did not mind posing in front for a picture. Facing the sky in the other direction was this energetic sky.

And then perhaps Bree's most favorite thing... duck in a bush! She loves this eclectic guy and always remembers to talk to him a bit when we walk by. Or stick out her tongue. Either way, the duck is never offended.

And then there is this...

Of all of our adventures in Montauk, I think my fondest memories will be of our nightly walks to ditch plains beach.

lunch with family

Our New York family braved the heat and headed out for a yummy seafood lunch at Gosman's. Bree was a little lady and we all enjoyed the company and lobster rolls.

The heat and humidity of the day made for a perfect dip in the pool after!

m r ducks

Thirteen years ago I wrote this on the board and challenged my third graders to tell me what it said:
mr ducks
mr not ducks
sar
cdedbd wings?
o i c - mr ducks!

I had a fun day listening to their solutions, and last year when I reconnected with Kamara (a student from that class) on facebook she asked me about it. Turns out that is what she remembered from third grade... who knew?

If you are having trouble deciphering my little saying, these pictures from the duck pond in East Hampton, NY may help.

vacation toys!

Cousin Joe is such a terrific host. Not only does he make yummy dinners every night, he also finds us toys! The local church has proven to be a great place to find new and used toys and Joe has been wonderful about finding them. The kids have had plenty to do to keep them occupied around the house. Bree loved fishing in the "pond" Joe created for her (of course if it involves water she is happy) and Ben has played with just about everything.

The best part is - we don't have to pack them!
