Spending a summer day in NYC is always a treat. Dan was a trooper and accompanied me to the New York Public Library! Here is a photograph of one of the famed library lions.
I was thrilled to find myself in the midst of a free exhibition called The ABC of it - Why Children's Books Matter. This could not have been more perfectly planned! I delighted through the displays of the exhibit with my husband in tow.
We couldn't resist the Goodnight Moon photo opp! How many times have we read this aloud to our babies? Such a wonderful, classic bedtime story that sings and soothes in its simplicity.
I was intrigued by this article on Anne Carroll Moore. It makes me want to learn more about her and about the history of children in libraries. (Even more so because I also have an extreme dislike of Stuart Little.)
As far as the rest of the library - I couldn't find any books. I even asked one of the volunteers there why there weren't any, and she told me that the NYPL is a reference library. Oh well, at least I did find an old-fashioned card catalog and a super cool lion water fountain!
