bree sings

One of my favorite things is listening to Bree sing. She catches me off guard at times, like tonight when we were driving home and Coldplay's new song came on the radio, Viva La Vida. She just started humming to the song and when it was over, clapped her hands and said, "Yay!" We actually watched together as they performed this song on the Grammy's and she clapped when it was over that time, too. I happen to really like this song as well, and am posting a video of it to share:



Bree's other favorite song to sing in the car is Beyonce's Single Ladies (or Put a Ring On It.) She gets really into the "oh oh ohs" in the song and belts them out! I would love to get a video of her actually singing but whenever I pull out the camera, she stops what she is doing and runs over to look at the screen on the back of it. LOL!

have you ever?

Have you ever had an extremely vivid dream? One where you were able to use senses other than your sight? I had one the other night, and I think it is the first time I have ever had a dream that truly incorporated my sense of smell. I don't remember too much about the dream overall, just that I was in Hawaii, and I could smell the plumeria flowers. I love, love, LOVE the smell of plumeria flower leis, fell in love with it on my honeymoon and made sure to buy and wear a lei whenever possible. (After all, where else can you walk around wearing flowers around your neck and have it be normal?) I even bought some plumeria scented perfume to bring home, but sadly the perfume isn't the best and I don't wear it.

I woke up with the enchanting scent still lingering in the air of my bedroom.

some old pictures

I am meaning to upload some pictures of Bree onto the computer but have misplaced my camera cord.... While looking for it I found these old pictures. The first one is of my grandmother, Grandma Olson, who passed away while I was in middle school. Looking at this photo makes me wish I had had more time with her. She was a teacher in a one room schoolhouse. I would love to hear her stories. I don't know what year this picture was taken or how old she was in it.


Then there is this one, clearly taken in 1959. The writing on the back says "Glenn (7)." The interesting thing about this picture to me today is that this must be my father's second grade photo. When I look at this picture, I can picture this kid in my class. It makes me wonder what kind of student he was, what kind of kid. I could ask him, but that wouldn't really tell me. It's more fun to imagine. The only thing that sets the kid in this picture apart from the kids in my class now is that shirt he's wearing!

The Night Villa: A Novel by Carol Goodman

Another Goodman novel with the elements I've grown to love... mystery, classics, a setting that plays a major role in the story. This novel is set in Italy along the Amalfi coast - a place I am just dying to see. (I've been to Italy but only to Rome and north.) Classics professor Sophie travels to Italy to study ancient scrolls that were covered in ash by Mt. Vesuvius and have survived buried in the Villa della Notte, or Night Villa. Other unsavory characters are after the scrolls as well, and Sophie finds herself tangled in a web of deceit amid the Herculaneum ruins.

I enjoyed the parallels Goodman drew to classic Greek mythology and had finally dug out my book on Greek myths to refresh my memory on some of the stories. I will say there were times early on when I thought I was rereading The Sonnet Lover - Goodman writes with a formula and this book was reminiscent of her previous work. Overall, a good read with a page-turning ending!

we're on tv!

That's just fun to say. Don't be surprised if, while watching tv in the next few weeks, you see some familiar faces! Our local KRDO channel uses a photo that Dan took of the Garden of the Gods as their backdrop, and unfortunately it became a battle to get them to pay for its use and for portraits they hired Dan to take of their anchors. To make a long story short, we now have some television advertising time.

One night after work I headed over to the studio to watch some of the production. Our friends the Hepperles came down to the studio to sit for a portrait while the television cameras filmed Dan at work. We weren't planning on Bree being in the commercial but she was in a surprisingly cooperative mood. My only regret is that she wasn't wearing something cute.

We have two ads that are airing. One is a wedding ad and one is a portrait ad. Both of them have Dan's smiling face. One has Bree - and a shot of my pregnant belly at the end!
