Tough Trucks!
We went out to dinner at one of our favorite local spots - The Hideaway. There was some work being done in the area and when we got out of the car Ben was super excited about the heavy machinery!

Rock Steps at the Lighthouse
After Ben's big climb we decided to see the lighthouse from a different angle, the rocks below. A lot of work has been done on the land surrounding the lighthouse in an effort to control erosion. The land supporting the lighthouse has lost 200 feet in the last 200 years to surf erosion. Currently, there are boulders at the base of the sea wall to help with the erosion, and these happen to be laid out as large stepping stones which can be walked on. I think it must have been a lot of work to place these stones here, but Ben was simply excited to walk along them and watch the impressive sea waves pound and splash against them. I won't lie, he made me a little nervous walking along here, but the view was certainly special. I will forever love the picture of him sitting on the rocks watching the waves crash around him, all the more perhaps because of how nervous it made me.
Thankfully, I was treated to my favorite lunch when we finished - a Montauk lobster roll!
Ben's big climb
This summer, at age 4, Ben was tall enough to climb the twisty, steep steps to the top of the Montauk Point Lighthouse. (He was allowed in even despite the fact that he sneakily stood on his tiptoes while being measured.) The lighthouse was authorized by President George Washington in 1792. Ben did a great job on the climb, with help from his Momma and Cousin Joe.
