meadowlark song
Yesterday was beautiful here in Colorado! We had 70 degree weather and I was driving with my windows down. Lucky me, while stopped at a red light I was serenaded by my first Meadowlark of the season. I love this sound! The Youtube video is not mine, but it is a good clip of the song of the Meadowlark.

Disney on Ice
Sunday, March 29, 2010 was a wonderful family day! Mommy, Daddy, Bree, Grammie and Grandma spent the day with lunch out at the Macaroni Grill, followed by an exciting Disney on Ice show at the World Arena. (Baby brother was there, too. Technically.) We had a great time spoiling Bree and watching her reactions to the show. I was especially excited to see her face when her beloved Snow White hit the ice. When her favorite princess made her appearance, Bree put her "shy smile" on! It was priceless. The part she hasn't stopped talking about I did not get a picture of, unfortunately. She was particularly impressed by the whale in the Pinocchio segment. It ate him and then sneezed him out. Whenever we ask her about "Disney" she is sure to mention this part of the show. This was a day to remember!

sprinkle showers
A friend of mine told me recently about something called "Sprinkle Showers." I had never heard this term but it apparently is when someone gives you a shower for a baby that is not your first. Last weekend some lovely family members and friends of mine hosted a couple of small sprinkle showers for me! Planning for a second baby has certainly not been as big of a stretch as planning for the first was, but there are still some things that we do need, and we are so grateful to friends and family for their love and generosity at the showers. Little man is just about set - now if we could only pick a name!

The Help by Kathryn Stockett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I finished reading The Help last night, but it seems it hasn't finished with me just yet. I keep thinking about the story and the characters as if they are good friends of mine. Kathryn Stockett chose a topic close to her heart for her first novel, set in Jackson, Mississippi in the turbulent 1960s. This is the story of 3 very different but equally strong southern women. Skeeter, an awkward young white woman has just graduated from college and returned home, longing to make a break into the journalism world. Aibileen is a wise, black maid raising her seventeenth white child. And Minny is a sassy, short-tempered maid whose mouth gets her into a lot of trouble.
Through a series of events, these three women come together and embark on a dangerous project in an effort to stand up against injustice. I was fascinated by this story, even more so after learning that it is loosely based on some of the author's own experiences growing up with a black maid as a caregiver.

kickin it, round 3

I'm breathing a sigh of relief that soccer ended yesterday. This time around Bree was in the Cottontails class with Coach Aaron. We absolutely LOVE Coach Aaron. He does a wonderful job with the kids, and is patient with our darling I-want-to-do-it-MY-way daughter. Cottontails is the class where parents step back off of the field unless we are needed to redirect. We are getting closer to her moving on to more independent activities! We enjoyed our indoor soccer season, but mommy is ready for some down time before baby brother arrives.
This picture makes me smile - you can imagine the drama it took to produce it. Bree hates to have her photo taken and will only pose for a second or two! I love that we have a progression of three soccer photos from each of her classes, bunnies, thumpers and now cottontails.
